Recommendations for Reducers & Modifiers THINNING & EXTENDING QCM INKS: To obtain a thinner ink and softer hand, QCM inks can be thinned with QCM Reducers and Extenders:REDUCER # 55 Phthalate-free, low viscosity plasticizer. Normally used at up to 5%, without losing opacity, this reducer is the standard for multi-printing. It can be used up to 10%. the more you use, the softer the ink. P5011 CURABLE REDUCER Low viscosity ORTHO-PHTHALATE FREE curable base reducer. Can be added at any level to reduce viscosity without making ink sticky. But be careful; at higher levels of addition, opacity will drop. LFP-100 Non-Pigmented Plastisol. Can be used to extend inks without reducing their consistency. Can be used at any dilution. Used alone, it produces a semi-transparent layer when cured. Ortho-phthalate free. LFP-1001 Extender Base. An extender base for plastisol inks. It can be used up to 100% without diminishing the strength or adhesion of the ink. Also, for printing on light colored garments it is an economical way of reducing costs. LFP-1001 can be added without thinning the ink appreciably. Ortho-phthalate free. LFP-1002 Half-Tone Base. An extender base for extending inks that are used with color separation process or 1, 2, 3 or 4 color half- tones (65 line or 85 line.) With this extender, thicker inks can be cut without thinning them - ink stays up on the fabric. It can also be used up to 100%, but test for loss of opacity. Ortho-phthalate free. DT-01 DETACKIFIER Add NO MORE THAN 5%, normally 1 to 2%, to help eliminate build up on underside of screens, when printing multi color prints. MF-66 NYLON BONDING AGENT is added at 10 to 15% by weight to plastisol inks (thicker inks like ATP work better, because this additive will thin the ink) in order to improve adhesion to NYLON and Polyester shirts. Normally a 10% add will work better. First wipe the NYLON jacket with a Ketone-soaked rag to remove the waterproofing in the area to be printed. This will improve the bonding of the ink. Allow 24 hours before testing for adhesion and durability - testing too soon will not show true results. Print through 140 to 200 mesh screen with 60 or 70 durometer squeegee and cure at 325 deg.F for 90 seconds. MF-177 THICKENER is added at 1% level (CAUTION DO NOT ADD MORE ) and then stirred and left for 20 minutes to thicken. Then, if still not thick enough, try another 1%. CAREFUL: if you add too much and do not wait the 20 minutes, you may end up with a solid, unusable mass. LFP-1060 CLEAR GEL is our new clear gel ink designed to be printed through a thick stencil (700 microns) to give a clear bead of crystal clear ink. Used to overprint base colors - the bead takes on the color of the base color. Very popular with children's garments. Ortho-phthalate free. ATP-100 CAVIAR BEAD/GLITTER ADHESIVE used to bond PVC Caviar beads to garments. Call for instructions -just the right amount of ATP-100 needs to be put down to give adequate adhesion. Again overprint on base colors to show color through the beads. Use a thick stencil (400 micron). CLEAN-UP: Use odorless mineral spirits or MF-242 EZ-CLEAN. |
